Within Digital technology there are three main features to maintain the foundations of the music industry, these three features being:
The PRODUCTION team,
The production team are the main beneficial requirement for digital technology and the music industry, they will pay for all the financial requirements needed to build and expand the selected piece of music as they are fundamental to maintain the management of the entire project. The music producer will inspire the artist, they will encourage the artist and they will even provoke the artist if needed. The production team also achieve the highest profit.
The DISTRIBUTION team,
The distribution team are the fundamental requirements for the advertising of the digital music distribution project. Computer technology and the seemingly technology and the seemingly free distribution of music through so-called “peer-to-peer” systems such as Napster and its descendents threaten to destroy this industry, or at the very least, disrupt its current revenue model. There is also the lesser popular choice of distribution through the radio streaming, through non visual advertisement. Although the paid for distribution of visual advertisement, through posters, video advertising est, this is still the most favourite choice of distribution from modern artists, therefore at this particular choice of distribution, the team in charge of distributing would pay for all types of promotion.
The CONSUMER,
Although the consumer does not impact the artist financially, they are still the key part of the production and distribution, as they are the bases in which the artist basis there image, music and promotion on. Without the Consumers opinion and expression, the artist would not be able to be as likeable and as involved with the consumer, this is because they would not be able to therefore engage with the consumer and their likes and dislikes, therefore the consumer would not be buying what they want.
TECHNOLOGY
DOWNLOADING, FILE SHARING,ACCESSING MUSIC FOR FREE OR ILLEGALLY?
Within he digital technology, teenagers are the biggest consumer. Teenagers have the biggest reputation to download music illegally, therefore they are the main reason to blame for the lack of profit within production and distribution as they are essentially stealing from the artist. Teenagers themselves are not to blame, as they have been brought up and raising into the digital era. The way we share music has changed into a file sharing revolution, therefore technology is causing the problem, and teenagers are more than likely non ethical about this.
Teenagers are a big contender within the file sharing market, they use P2P sharing (peer to peer sharing), therefore sharing music on one computer and one files usage being expanded to a greater potential than the recommended sharing of a file. However you do not need to pay to participate within file sharing or downloading, you can simply log onto a P2P website and access other members of the sites files, whilst they can also access yours, you can also download through web hosted sites, therefore file sharing privately. With the P2P access being so easy and accessible to virtually anyone in this era it has become immensely popular, therefore bringing cons and pros from this form of obtaining files such as music.
Pros:
Less expensive or free (although the legality of this is questioned), therefore expanding the popularity of P2P as they don't have to pay the greater extent of the actual CD or download, instead they can download a copy of the music file that someone has already paid for.
Efficient, file sharing is fast and easy to manoeuvre, the files are manoeuvrable as they are compressed into smaller files and they are faster to download.
Cons:
Not legal the majority of the time, therefore you can be prosecuted for breeching copyright laws.
Copyright laws, The wide majority of artist make their profit of their copyright royalties. Therefore with the intense popularity of the P2P sharing, they are not gaining the profit they need to live off, and this is because of plummeting sales of CD's.
Spyware, The majority of P2P file sharing sites are filled with spyware, this could then lead to the problem of crashing computer or a slow computer. Spyware can also cause the majority of viruses and Trojans, these can then result in the loss of personal information, fraud and even the maintaing of passwords, therefore resulting in the usage of firewalls.
Because technology seems to be causing the problem of this file sharing, the major computing directors 'APPLE', have produced 'apps'. Apps copyright is payed for by apple, therefore they maintain the copyright ownership.
APPLE TERMS AD CONDITIONS:

Technology has therefore changed the way production and distribution works, as there is a lower income of money getting into the production and distribution business due to the illegal downloading/ stealing. Technology has also cause the shut down of 60 HMV stores due to the constant drop of album sales.

CASE STUDY'S + HOW BIG LABELS RESPOND
SONY. EMI LOST THE BATTLE OF COPYRIGHT AND A LOSS OF REVENUE SCHEME.

MAJOR LABEL
The music industry is dominated by the following major labels:
BMG music
AOL/Time Warner
Vivendi Universal
SONY corp
in particular the major label Sony
INDEPENDENT LABEL
The label I am analysing and studying is the record label 'XL', and here is there web address: http://www.xlrecordings.com/
XL is a small independent label with a specialized audience. As this is an independent label it therefore has a lot of main advantages such as, they will have the largest share within the market (18%), they are developing more sustainable business models, their music consumers recognise the appeal of independent music, they are completely different from major labels, they have fewer employees and therefore fewer expenses, they work closely with each artist, Although with them being a independent label they also have disadvantages these being, they often lack strength and therefore they do not have as much access and leverage to access the radio, retail and media.
XL records are recognised as one of the current leading independent record label, they have also been mentioned in articles constantly, one being the from 'The Guardian', they described this record label in a positive manner by telling the audience of 'The Guardian' about the unique and good features of the record label, 'innovative new music', 'commercially successful', 'XL like to break new artists', 'XL is an establishment big hitter, competing on a scale similar to SONY' and 'it cedes an incredible amount of control to its artists', within these quotes we can see proof that XL hand over control to their artist in contrast to the major labels, they also bring out 'new' music and they are providing music at the same scale as a major scale.

Modern artists in the 21century contain artist who have been found through their internet sensation on you-tube, they have shared their music onto the free streaming video site 'You-tube', and they have then been spotted by a record label or artist from a strong independent music label. One of the most recent examples of this new era of artists is the heart throb teenager, Justin Bieber.
Justin Bieber was recognised for his talent when the keen interest of superstar 'Usher' was brought to attention after Usher viewed Justin's videos. Justin then sang for Usher, after this encounter with Usher, the keen interest of Justin Timberlake was then brought to Justins attention, Although Usher soon proved to Justin that he was the person to sign with, thus showing the power of the internet found artists, as Justin Bieber is now one of the worlds biggest superstars, and Justin now has a mentor who is one of his closet friends and is like a brother the Justin.
The fact that Justin Bieber is a superstar now, is due to the connection between the artists within YouTube and the consumer. The consumer was responsible for the success of Justin Bieber, as they allowed Justin Bieber to gain enough, video responses and views to gain acceptance to a superstar, Usher.
The frame of this success was maintained on the on-line free video streaming site, YouTube, thus showing how Technology can now make the difference between a pop-star and a unknown one.

Cloud is the on-line revolution, it is a internet hosted service on-line. Cloud computing includes on-line backup services, social networking services, and personal data services such as Apple's MobileMe. Cloud computing also includes online applications, such as those offered through Microsoft Online Services. Hardware services, such as redundant servers, mirrored websites, and Internet-based clusters are also examples of cloud computing.
