HOW ARE SONY VERTICALLY INTEGRATED (HOW DO THEY PROFIT FROM THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF MUSIC PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION AND CONSUMPTION)?
. Sony own the rights to all the signed artists music, therefore leaving the actual writer of the song (the artist) handing it over to Sony.
. Sony also expand the audience of their music by placing their music in films and TV shows.
. Sony also sell music to listeners through CD sales and the completely legal download sales, both being the modern well know choice to buy music on, although downloading becoming frequently more popular than CD.
. Sony also sell there own CD players, MP3 players, laptops and a variety of electrical equipment to listen to music on.
HOW DO SONY PROFIT FROM MEDIA CONVERGENCE AT THE LEVEL OF THE MEDIA PRODUCT, (FOR EXAMPLE, A SOUNDTRACK OR MUSIC IN A VIDEO GAME)?
Sony own many video games and films so therefore can easily and cheaply expand the number of people who hear their artists music by playing them on films and video games.
